Startup visa and ENISA: what the file really has to prove

The Spanish startup route does not reward ambition in the abstract. It rewards a file that proves two things on paper: the project is innovative, and the team can execute it.

Startup team working on a project

Two questions the reviewer is actually asking

  1. Is this innovative? Not "is it a good business" — is it different from what already exists, and can that difference be documented?
  2. Can this team deliver it? Track record, complementary skills, and evidence the founders are actually working on it.

What counts as proof of innovation

What counts as proof of a credible team

CVs are the starting point, not the argument. What convinces is a pattern: this person built something similar, in this industry, for this long — with references who can be contacted. Founder-market fit written plainly beats an impressive list of job titles.

Where files fail

Realistic timeline

Preparation takes longer than the filing. Assembling the project description, incorporation and apostilled documents is a matter of weeks; the authority's decision period is short by comparison. Plan backwards from the date the person must be in Spain, and put documents first.

For companies hiring founders

Bringing a founder or key team member through this route is a joint project between company and individual. The most common delay is not legal — it is waiting for a document from one side while the other assumes it is done.
